Situation in Kazakhstan: What Almaty looks like after clashes and looting

More than 100 people involved in looting and riots were detained in Almaty. Meanwhile, measures to detain and eliminate armed persons continue.

The problem with access to the Internet remains relevant practically throughout Kazakhstan.

The media and eyewitnesses publish on social media footage of what Almaty looks after the protests, shooting and looting.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. Clashes with security officials continue in Almaty. The Internet is periodically turned off throughout the country, the media practically do not work.

The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
