Protests in Kazakhstan could affect price of liquefied gas in Kyrgyzstan

Protests continue in Kazakhstan. Rallies are being held for several days in different cities of the country, including Nur-Sultan and Almaty because of an increase in the price of liquefied gas. From January 1, 2022, the price increased from 60 to 120 tenge per liter.

The head of the Union of Oil Traders of the Kyrgyz Republic Zaur Kipkeev told 24.kg news agency that this destabilization might affect the prices of liquefied gas, which Kyrgyzstan buys from Kazakhstan, and the neighboring state is currently the only supplier. "The president of Kazakhstan announced lowering of prices for domestic consumers. The export price may, on the contrary, increase. As for the cost of gasoline, we buy this fuel not from Kazakhstan, but from Russia. Another question is what will happen to the transit cargoes, if the escalation continues and the borders are closed? Gasoline comes to us through Kazakhstan," Zaur Kipkeev told.
