Unknown strain of coronavirus discovered in France

A new strain of coronavirus has been discovered in the south of France. The Austrian newspaper Heute reports.

According to it, an unknown variant of COVID-19 was found in the French who returned from Cameroon. Doctors suppose that the causative agent of this strain is common in the African country.

Scientists from Marseille said the new variant contains 46 mutations. It was named B.1.640.2. There are no data on the level of threat or contagiousness of the strain yet.

Earlier, a scientist from Greece said that the wave of infections with Omicron coronavirus strain would subside by February 20, 2022. According to Demosthenes Sariyannis, a professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, this is probably the last mutation of COVID-19. He referred to a mathematical model of development of the next «rampant» wave of the pandemic.
