Almost 60 percent of Russians support restriction of external migration

About 62 percent of external migrants in Russia are natives of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Vladimir Zorin, chairman of the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on Harmonization of Interethnic and Interreligious Relations, said at a press conference in Moscow.

According to him, the most attractive areas for migrants in Russia are large cities and regions: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

«The defiant behavior of migrants who do not want to socialize demonstrates disregard for our laws, which leads to interethnic tension. Almost 60 percent of Russians in metropolitan cities are in favor of restricting external migration. The state responds to this. We have serious work to do to make migration meeting the interests of the state, and not the state meeting the interests of migrants,» Vladimir Zorin said.

It is noted that about $350 billion are transferred by migrants to their home countries.

Earlier, it was reported that migrants from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in Russia have difficulties in accessing medical services.
