«There was no additional discharge of water bypassing the hydropower units of Toktogul hydroelectric power plant, as each cubic meter of water was converted into electricity,» the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan said.
The ministry reminded that the Ministries of Energy of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan agreed on the mutual supply of electricity. Under the agreement, the Kazakh side provides an initial supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan in the spring and autumn of 2021 in the amount of 900 million kilowatt-hours.
«On the basis of the contract in the period from March to May 2021, the electric energy in the amount of 420 million kilowatt-hours was received from Kazakhstan, which provided an opportunity to accumulate additional water in the Toktogul reservoir during this period. In turn, the Kyrgyz side returned to Kazakhstan previously received electricity in the amount of 300 million kilowatt-hours in the summer period — June-August 2021,» the Ministry of Energy told.
«The electricity returned from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan is generated at Toktogul and Tash-Kumyr HES. At the same time, the volume of consumed water is used for its generation,» the ministry concluded.
