The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Teresa Ribeiro will arrive in Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Teresa Ribeiro on the sidelines of the 28th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council. The parties, in particular, discussed the results of the parliamentary elections. Teresa Ribeiro highlighted the role of the media in ensuring transparent and accountable elections and stressed the importance of giving them access to observe the voting process.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE representative exchanged views on the format of organizing trainings and workshops for journalists from Kyrgyzstan. «In particular, the Kyrgyz side proposed to consider the possibility of holding these events at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, which will become a positive precedent for the development of such a practice in the future,» the ministry said.
Ruslan Kazakbaev proposed holding a joint Central Asian media conference in Issyk-Kul in 2022.
Teresa Ribeiro told about plans to visit Kyrgyzstan by the end of the year. The ministry noted that this «will provide an excellent opportunity to continue a detailed discussion of issues on further promotion of freedom of the media.»
