Students in hijab: Limitation of right to education fraught with radicalization

The issue of open access to school for female students in hijab, despite its relevance, remains unresolved from year to year. Eliana Sattarova, editor-in-chief of Ummah magazine, announced it at the round table discussion «Observance of human rights in the context of combating extremism in OSCE region.»

Limitation of the right of girls wearing hijab to education could lead to radicalization, she believes.

«Despite the open answer of the President Sadyr Japarov about equal access to education, the problem arises from year to year. Keeping girls out of education can lead to radicalization of our society on both sides. This, of course, speaks of the low level of secular and religious education. It was said here that social discontent breeds extremism. It would seem that the issue is insensible, but given our geographic location, it requires attention,» she said.
