$ 60 million allocated for water supply of Batken, Talas regions

Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development considered a draft loan agreement between the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the Saudi Fund for Development.

According to Askarbek Toktoshev, Director of the Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Development Department, the project is aimed at improving the availability and quality of water supply in the villages of Batken and Talas regions.

The total amount of funding is $ 60 million, $ 30 million of which is allocated by the Saudi Fund for Development, $ 20 million — by the Islamic Development Bank. Loan funds are provided for 25 years, including 5 years grace period, at 1 percent per annum. $ 10 million is the share of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the project.

The main amount will be spent on the development of water supply and sanitation systems in the two regions to serve about 146,000 people. Project duration is 4.5 years.

Following the discussion, the deputies supported the draft agreement.
