Defendants in the criminal case on modernization of the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant were remanded in custody in the pretrial detention center of the State Committee for National Security. The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek made the decision.
By the court decision, the former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Zhantoro Satybaldiev, former head of the National Energy Holding Aibek Kaliev, his deputy Zholdoshbek Nazarov, and former mayor of Jalal-Abad will remain in custody until February 13, 2019.
At least four criminal cases were opened and seven former top managers of the power industry were arrested, including the former head of the National Energy Holding Aibek Kaliyev and the former General Director of Electric Stations Salaydin Avazov, on the breakdown and modernization of the capital’s Heating and Power Plant.
In addition, the former prime ministers Zhantoro Satybaldiev and Sapar Isakov, as well as ex-mayor of Bishkek Kubanychbek Kulmatov, are in custody. They are all charged with corruption.
