Kyrgyzstan spends 200 million soms on convicts annually

At least 200 million soms are spent annually on the convicts in Kyrgyzstan. The Chairman of the State Service for Punishment Execution, Taalaibek Zhaparov, told at a press conference.

According to him, the agency intends to develop agriculture in the territory of closed institutions. It is necessary for the service to alone cover the costs of feeding the prisoners.

«I set the task of self-repayment of products, which is procured by the state for the convicts. In the next two years, we want to pay back at least 10 percent of what the state spends. Now we pay for the repairs, electricity, water bills and other small expenses,» said Taalaibek Zhaparov.
