In 2018, China will hand over to Kyrgyzstan its four convicted citizens. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldaev informed Azattyk.
According to him, 17 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are serving their sentences in Chinese prisons now. Most of them are accused of drug smuggling. In 2017, two convicts were returned to Kyrgyzstan from PRC’s prisons, and two — in 2016.
In February 2016, Kyrgyzstani Svetlana Kulbaeva was put to death for transporting 7 kilograms of drugs in the Chinese city of Urumqi. The body of the woman was handed over to her relatives in Kyrgyzstan.
