Nursultan Nazarbayev approves draft Kazakh alphabet in Latin

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev approved the draft of the alphabet of the Kazakh language on the basis of Latin graphics. Official website of the head of Kazakhstan informs.

Nazarbayev noted the active discussion of the last version of the Kazakh alphabet and stressed the public support.

«The commission has completed its work. The last version was published. Consensus between scientists, linguists, politicians, youth and the representatives of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan has been reached. In general, the society supports it,» the President of Kazakhstan said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev drew attention to the importance of a phased and systemic transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin characters.

According to the decree dated October 26, a phased translation of the Kazakh alphabet into Latin script should be provided until 2025.

32 signs instead of 42 Cyrillic letters are used in the new alphabet, nine of which are written with an apostrophe.
