180 people convicted of religious extremism in Kyrgyzstan in 2016

The number of convicts of religious extremism is growing in Kyrgyzstan. In 2016 at least 180 people were convicted under this article. This was stated at the forum of ombudsmen by deputy head of the State Service for execution of a punishment Jorobek Duishenbiev.

According to him, such prisoners, according to the law, are kept separately from the main contingent. And those who received the first term under this article are kept in a reinforced regime in the «green» section, that is, in facility No. 27.

He also said that the category of those convicted of terrorism and extremism is increasing. In 2013, 81 people were convicted of extremism and terrorism, 116 — in 2014, and 132 — in 2015.
