Kyrgyzstan spends on energy sector 13 times more than it allocates to poor

Kyrgyzstan spends on energy sector 13 times more than it allocates to support the poor, the Economist of the World Bank office in the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Dubashov said today at a press conference.

He gave some more comparisons. For example, the money that the energy sector received from the state and donors is 70 percent of the sum that the state spends on salaries, or 65 percent of the pensions. The amount allocated for the development of energy sector is 13 times more than the state spends on supporting the poor.

Nevertheless, the state of energy industry is sad. The equipment is worn out and obsolete. «Losses can be less, but only through higher tariffs," Bakyt Dubashov said.
