The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan has issued a weather alert.
According to the ministry, due to recent and forecast snowfall, avalanches and heavy snow drifts are expected in the country’s mountainous regions from February 7 to 9. Packed snow and icy conditions are also forecast on roads.
Hazardous sections include:
- Bishkek—Osh road: kilometers 121–138 (Too-Ashuu Pass), kilometers 198–255 (Ala-Bel Pass, Chychkan Gorge);
- Ala-Buka—Kanysh-Kiya road: kilometers 65–101 (Chapchyma Pass);
- Krasnaya Gorka—Ak-Tash road: kilometers 0–3;
- Myrza-Ake—Kara-Kuldzha—Alaikuu road: kilometers 65–110;
- Karakol—Enilchek road: kilometers 45–90 (Chon-Ashuu Pass).
The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges drivers traveling through avalanche-prone areas to strictly maintain a distance of at least 500 meters between vehicles.
