A competition for the text of the national anthem will be announced in Kyrgyzstan. The Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev said during the ceremony of awarding media workers on the occasion of Information and Press Day.
He noted that many wanted to raise the issue of changing the state symbol, but no one dared to do it.
«I suggested it. We will hold a special session in the Parliament next week. We will announce an open, transparent competition. The anthem lacks words such as: «I am for Kyrgyzstan, for the Kyrgyz people, let the country develop.» Use of first-person pronouns is lacking,» Nurlanbek Shakiev said.
He also called for not making a tragedy out of the initiative to change the state symbol.
«God willing, we will change the anthem. It will not be me who decides, but the Kyrgyz people, the creative intelligentsia of the Kyrgyz Republic,» the Speaker added.
The Spokesman for President Askat Alagozov posted on Facebook that there is no reason to excite the public over a possible change of the national anthem. He noted that the statement by the Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev should be taken as his personal opinion only.
However, the head of state later commented on the issue of changing the anthem. He supported Nurlanbek Shakiev’s initiative. According to Sadyr Japarov, the anthem needs to be changed, as it has lost its relevance.
