The Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan asks to extend the work of the commission responsible for selecting the best new version of the text and music for the national anthem until October 1 of this year.
At a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy of Parliament, Minister of Culture Mirbek Mambetaliev said that the composition of the commission of 47 people was re-approved, as there were those who voluntarily left it.
He told that from February to March 20, 2025 the commission received 703 projects from 488 citizens. At least 285 projects were registered. However, the commission concluded that all projects did not meet the required substantive and artistic standards.
The Minister informed that, at the suggestion of the commission, the repeated competition will consist of two stages. At the first stage, a new text of the anthem will be selected, at the second stage, a competition will be announced to create a musical work based on the approved text.
MP Aida Isatbek kyzy asked the minister to develop a mechanism so that Kyrgyzstanis could take part in the selection of the anthem.
«47 people should not impose their opinion on 7 million. The commission should present the selected options to the public for a vote,» the MP said.
The new anthem had to be chosen by April 21 of this year.
The idea of changing the anthem was voiced last year by the Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, who stated the need to adopt a new anthem, because the current one is difficult to perform. Later, the president also supported this idea.
