City Court upholds sentence for webcam studio owner Daniel Azhiev

The Bishkek City Court considered the case against a webcam studio owner Daniel Azhiev, who was previously sentenced to nine years in prison by the Pervomaisky District Court.

The sentence was passed on July 31, 2024. Daniel Azhiev was found guilty on several counts — organization or maintenance of brothels for prostitution or pimping for debauchery, distribution of pornographic items, creation of an organized group or participation in it and causing property damage by deception or abuse of trust.

In addition, the court banned Daniel Azhiev from engaging in entrepreneurial activity for two years and ordered him to pay the state a fine of 220,000 soms.

Today, October 9, the Bishkek City Court upheld the first instance verdict. That is, Daniel Azhiev will serve nine years in prison.

Daniel Azhiev was arrested on June 5, 2023 for organizing a transnational network of webcam studios.

In 2020, Daniel Azhiev was accused of inciting ethnic hatred. However, he was later declared insane. He became known to the general public thanks to a scandal. He distributed humanitarian aid to the poor after the authorities declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic. Social media users criticized Daniel Azhiev. Afterwards, the organizer of the webcam studio posted a video, in which he insulted Kyrgyzstanis.
