Chingiz Aitmatov Street to appear in Russian Omsk city

One of the streets in the Russian Omsk city will be named after the People’s Writer of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aitmatov. Mayor of the city Sergei Shelest announced at the opening ceremony of the Days of Kyrgyz Culture.

«The grand opening of the Days of Kyrgyz Culture took place in Omsk, a city where representatives of more than 140 nationalities peacefully coexist. This event, which took place in the Omsk State Scientific Library named after A.S. Pushkin, became a vivid example of how cultural exchange can strengthen interethnic ties and promote mutual understanding,» the statement says.

According to the mayor, more than 10,000 Kyrgyz live in Omsk and for them the Days of Kyrgyz Culture became an opportunity to share their rich history and culture with residents.

The decision to rename one of the streets of Omsk in honor of the outstanding Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov became a symbol of respect for the Kyrgyz people and recognition of the contribution to world culture of the great master of words.
