Imports of Chinese goods to Kyrgyzstan in 2023 amounted to $5.4 billion. Such data was provided by the National Statistical Committee. According to the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2023 the volume of imports amounted to $19.7 billion.
An official representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic commented on this significant discrepancy in figures at a press conference.
According to the head of the Committee on Transport and Logistics of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Azamat Dzhumabekov, according to Chinese customs statistics, the volume of trade with Kyrgyzstan is measured in billions of U.S. dollars, while Kyrgyzstan provides data on significantly smaller volumes.
«The point is that all cargo that is sent from China is exported to Kyrgyzstan. The owners register their cargo as exports to our country. When these batches of cargo arrive in Kyrgyzstan, they are then sent in transit to other countries,» he explained.
The representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic believes that in such a situation the announced data does not correspond to real statistics, therefore the figures on foreign trade between the two countries are incorrect.
