Roskomnadzor has restricted access to Signal messenger in Russia. The reason cited is violation by American service of the requirements of the legislation on combating terrorism and extremism. The type of violations is not specified.
«Access to Signal messenger has been restricted due to violation of the requirements of Russian legislation, the implementation of which is necessary to prevent the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes,» the department’s press service reported.
Signal is an application for calls and messaging with end-to-end encryption technology (Signal Protocol). Russian users have previously complained about problems with the messenger. Sboy.rf service (monitoring the performance of services and websites — Note of 24.kg news agency) recorded more than 2,000 complaints about problems with Signal in the Russian Federation. The peak of requests occurred in the morning hours.
