Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov posted a message on Facebook, calling it a «Letter from Paris,» in which he called for legislative changes aimed at combating fakes and disinformation on social media.
Describing the situation after the sensational getting of Kyrgyz boxer Munarbek Seyitbek uulu into the Olympic finals, he noted the dissonance and confusion that arose in the public consciousness, which, according to the deputy head of the Cabinet, were caused by the actions of several irresponsible individuals, who spread false information about the alleged lack of food for Kyrgyz athletes at the Olympics.
The video, on which these statements were based, turned out to be old and related to the Asian Championship in Bishkek.
Edil Baisalov characterized the incident not as a harmless joke, and certainly not as an expression of freedom of speech, but as a serious threat to social harmony and a direct undermining of democratic values.
He cited examples of existing legislative norms in the UAE and Singapore, and noted the changes in the legislation of European countries that are being discussed. The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet pointed to the destruction of the democratic foundations of Western countries, the fragmentation and radicalization of society, and the threat of manipulation of public opinion from within and outside.
«Even if the country lives ten times better, society is doomed to feel a hundred times worse, if measures are not taken to curb those, who could previously harm only one family by talking in the kitchen, but now, thanks to modern technology, can instantly influence the mood of the entire nation,» he emphasized.
After returning from Paris, he will initiate a discussion of legislative changes in this area, Edil Baisalov posted.
