«Thirteen percent of the population of Central Asia do not have access to safe drinking water,» Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, said today, opening the Business Forum.
According to him, the Central Asian region loses almost 40 percent of water during irrigation on irrigated lands. Other 55 percent is lost in the networks during the supply of drinking water.
«The region is experiencing an episode of water stress. In three years, in case of a no change scenario, it may enter a phase of chronic water shortage,» Nikolai Podguzov said.
