Deputy minister tells how much water Kyrgyzstan gives to neighboring countries

Almazbek Sokeyev, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, who oversees water resources, told at a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Parliament how much water goes to neighboring countries.

According to him, this year Kazakhstan received 138 million cubic meters of water from Chui region and 420 million cubic meters of water from Kirov reservoir in Talas region.

«According to the agreement, during the growing season, we keep 80 percent of the water for ourselves, and give 20 percent to Kazakhstan. At other times, 58 percent remains in our country, and 42 percent goes to Kazakhstan,» Almazbek Sokeyev explained.

Uzbekistan received 6 billion cubic meters in 2024. In addition, Tajikistan also receives water from Kyrgyzstan.

The deputy minister summed up that the total flow in the country is 47 billion cubic meters, of which 12 billion remain in the Kyrgyz Republic, the rest goes to neighboring states.
