Osh Regional Court convicts Kyrgyzstani for participation in war in Ukraine

The Osh Regional Court sentenced a citizen of Kyrgyzstan to five years in prison for participating in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine on the side of Russia. The press service of the court reported.

«The Aravan District Court of Osh region sentenced a citizen of the republic, accused of participating in hostilities in Ukraine as part of the Russian army, to five years in prison,» the statement says.

The suspect was found guilty under the article of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on participation in armed conflicts or military actions on the territory of a foreign state.

By decision of the court, the convicted person’s property will also be confiscated, and he will serve his sentence in a general regime colony. According to the law, in such a situation, imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years is possible, but due to the amnesty announced in the country, the defendant’s term of imprisonment was reduced.

Earlier, another Kyrgyzstani was sentenced to a similar term. The Naryn Regional Court sentenced Beknazar Borugul uulu to five years in prison for participating in the war in Ukraine as part of Wagner PMC.

In May 2023, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek sentenced 31-year-old citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Kubanychbek to 10 years in prison for participating in a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine as part of the Russian army. In June 2022, he went as a contract soldier to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, serving as a gunner-operator in a motorized rifle unit as deputy commander of an infantry fighting vehicle. He took part in hostilities in Soledar district.

In November 2022, Kubanychbek retired from the army and went home to visit his sick father. After returning home, he was detained by local law enforcement officers and charged under the article on mercenarism. In August 2023, the Supreme Court overturned the lower court’s verdict against Askar Kubanychbek and he was given the opportunity to return to Russia.
