Armenia is going to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Its Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced, Interfax reports.
As the media outlet notes, Pashinyan spoke in the Armenian parliament during the «government hour» on June 12. In response to a reply from a deputy from the opposition faction why Armenia, expressing dissatisfaction with the CSTO, does not leave it, the prime minister said: «We will leave. We will decide when.»
What do you think? What is the next step? Do you think we’ll return? No, there is no other way. Don’t worry, we won’t go back.
Nikol Pashinyan
Recently Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly made harsh critical statements against the CSTO. His main claim is that the organization has not fulfilled its obligations to Yerevan, having taken a wait-and-see position during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. In February, the prime minister said that Armenia was suspending its membership in the CSTO, and in May Yerevan announced that it would stop paying contributions to the organization’s budget.
