«Our main trade partner — Russia — is under sanctions pressure. Despite this, the economy is showing steady growth within the EAEU,» the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, said in an interview with Russia 24 TV channel on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union.
He recalled that Kyrgyzstan’s GDP growth has averaged about 7 percent over the past three years, and in 2022 — more than 9 percent.
«The right macroeconomic policy, a professional team and creation of favorable conditions for our business and citizens, including within the EAEU, helped us to stabilize the economy after the pandemic and take full advantage of our union to make the KR economy work at the right pace,» the head of the Cabinet said.
According to him, the republic’s GDP reached more than 1,200 trillion soms in 2023, but Kyrgyzstan sets more ambitious goals. By 2030, the president has set a goal for the GDP to be at least $30 billion.
«Our Union has met the aspirations of our citizens. Usually these unions are created from the point of view of economic interests, political interests, and then they already take into account the interests of ordinary citizens. The demands of our citizens to live in freedom, to move freely, to communicate, to be freely employed — this is what was, I think, taken into account by our leaders when they created this Union,» Akylbek Japarov said.
