Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov met with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who arrived in Bishkek on a short-term visit. The press service of the Cabinet of Minsters reported.
They visited a Pakistani citizen undergoing treatment at the National Hospital in Bishkek.
The sides expressed satisfaction that thanks to the established direct and permanent intergovernmental contact, the recent events could not damage the traditionally friendly Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations.
Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov assured the high-ranking representative of Pakistan of friendly and benevolent attitude to foreign students in Kyrgyzstan and that all those responsible for the recent incident will be brought to justice.
The parties exchanged views and outlined a number of joint steps to strengthen cooperation in cultural and humanitarian, trade and economic spheres. The sides also found mutual understanding on the need for interstate regulation of labor migration issues.
A spontaneous protest against foreigners, which began in the evening of May 17 in Bishkek, ended only in the morning of May 18. The police managed to come to an agreement with the protesters, and they opened Chui Avenue, and dispersed a little later.
Following a fight on May 13 in a hostel, which was one of the reasons for the protests, the police detained four citizens of Egypt; they were later placed under house arrest. A criminal case was initiated under the article «Hooliganism» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
