New entry rules: 136 citizens of Uzbekistan not allowed to cross border

Due to non-compliance with the rules of entry into Kyrgyzstan, 136 citizens of Uzbekistan were not allowed to cross the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. Melis Pamirov, a representative of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, announced at a press conference.

He noted that decisions to refuse entry into the country are not a violation. Citizens of Uzbekistan can stay in the republic for 60 days without obstacles, and after that they need to apply for a visa.

As for citizens of Kazakhstan, the new rules will come into force in September 2024. After 60 days they need to register with the State Registration Service.

Third Secretary of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Azamat Kalysbekov noted that rules similar to the new regulations on the procedure for the stay of foreign citizens are common in other countries.

«The main goal is to stop the endless stay of foreigners on the territory of Kyrgyzstan without the appropriate documents. Those people who were not allowed to enter the country at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border wanted to reset the exit and entry deadlines. It is no longer possible. According to the rules, they must indicate the purpose of the visit and obtain permits,» the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told.

Gulbarchyn Turdubaeva, Chief Specialist at the Migration Division of the Population Registration Department under the Ministry of Digital Development, added that the system for registration of foreign citizens has not changed compared to the previous year.

«During registration, a foreigner must indicate the purpose of his or her stay and show an agreement with the employer. Then they will not have problems when leaving and entering. If you do not have the right to enter the country without a visa, you can apply for an electronic visa, even while staying in another country,» she noted.

The rules for the stay of foreign citizens in Kyrgyzstan were updated in October 2023. If a foreign citizen stays in the country for 60 days without registration, he or she must apply for a visa or leave the country during this time. They can return only after 60 days.

As for citizens of other countries who can visit Kyrgyzstan without a visa for up to 90 days, the terms will be calculated according to 90/180 principle.
