Population of Bishkek is growing unlike public transport number - expert

Over the past five years, the number of public transport in the capital has decreased. Vice Rector for Science and State Language of the Kyrgyz Economic University, Gulnaz Supaeva, said at the round table «Sustainable Development of Bishkek: Main Trends in Transport Development.»

She noted that the period from 2018 to 2022 has been analyzed.

«Maybe in 2023 there will be changes in the number of buses, but the number of minibuses has decreased significantly in 2022,» Gulnaz Supaeva said.

According to her, more than 1 million people lived in the city in 2018, and there were three public transport units per 1,000 people. On average, 455,000 passengers were transported daily.

«Last year, more than 1,120 million people lived in the capital, there were two public transport units per 1,000 people, and 241,000 passengers were transported. Thus, the population in Bishkek is growing, but the number of public transport per 1,000 people is decreasing,» the vice rector added.
