The General Director of the Opera and Ballet Theater, Almazbek Istambaev, was taken into custody. The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek made the decision at the request of the investigator.
According to the press service of the court, Almazbek Istambaev will be held in the institution No. 21 of the Penitentiary Service until January 4, 2024.
Earlier, the press center of the State Committee for National Security reported that the fact of abuse of official position — conclusion of long-term lease agreements for state property on theater’s balance — was revealed in the course of measures to detect and suppress corruption in the field of leasing activities of the Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abdylas Maldybaev.
Pre-trial proceedings have been launched under Article 337 «Abuse of official position» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
