Court releases Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev, rules on his deportation

The Bishkek City Court released Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev. The press service of the court reported.

The decision was made in connection with serving the sentence.

In addition, the panel of judges supplemented the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court — to assign the deportation of Mansur Movlaev from the country to the State Committee for National Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Migration Service.

«The rest of the sentence was left unchanged. The appeal submission of the senior assistant prosecutor of the Pervomaisky district of Bishkek and the lawyer’s appeal were left unsatisfied,» the court said.

By the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court on October 4, Mansur Movlaev was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 Article 378 «Illegal border crossing» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«He was sentenced to imprisonment for six months to be served in a general regime prison colony. The beginning of the sentence is calculated from August 20. The period of detention before the verdict enters into legal force is counted at the rate of one day in custody for two days of imprisonment,» the verdict says.

Mansur Movlaev has repeatedly spoken out against human rights violations and political repression in Chechnya. In 2020, he was sentenced to three years in prison. Representatives of the Russian opposition emphasize that the case is fabricated. In 2022, he was released on parole, but was detained by officers of the Shalinsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Chechnya. Mansur Movlaev managed to escape from the Russian Federation and was put on the federal wanted list. The activist has been in Kyrgyzstan since last year.
