Kyrgyzstanis convicted in Georgia may be extradited to their homeland

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Georgia Kairat Osmonaliev in Tbilisi met with the head of the International Relations and Legal Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office Irakli Chilingarashvili.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Georgia in the field of international legal assistance. In particular, the issues of extradition of citizens of Kyrgyzstan serving sentences on the territory of Georgia and criminal proceedings against Kyrgyzstanis brought to criminal liability were raised.

Then the diplomat met with the Director of the Department of International Relations and Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Ketevan Sarajishvili.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral relations in the legal field, including the implementation and execution of bilateral and multilateral international treaties between the two countries and the further improvement of the bilateral legal framework.

Particular emphasis was made on the issue of transfer of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic sentenced to imprisonment in Georgia for their further serving of sentences in their homeland.

In addition, the parties discussed possible ways to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. At the same time, interest was noted in studying the experience of Georgia in the field of public administration reforms, eradication of corruption and tourism development.
