U.S. applauds the Kyrgyz Republic’s repatriation of its nationals from Syria

U.S. applauds the Kyrgyz Republic’s repatriation of its nationals from northeast Syria. Statement by the U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller says.

Within the framework of another humanitarian mission, a special operation Aikol-3 to repatriate citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, staying in camps in the northeast of Syria, was successfully implemented on October 22. Special aircraft from Syria to Kyrgyzstan delivered 21 women and 62 children who are citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«The Kyrgyz Republic’s repatriation of 83 women and children from the al-Hol displaced persons camp in northeast Syria is another important step to resolve the humanitarian and security challenges that have followed the territorial defeat of ISIS. The United States supported the Kyrgyz Republic’s repatriation of its nationals and stands ready to continue its cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic and other nations in their repatriation efforts,» the statement says.

As noted, approximately 35,000 individuals from more than 60 countries outside Syria remain in the al-Hol and Roj camps, most of whom are vulnerable children under the age of twelve. Repatriation is the only durable solution.

«We are grateful to our international and local partners, the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the Government of Kuwait for their support in returning displaced persons at al-Hol and Roj to their countries of origin. More than 3,000 people have been repatriated to their countries of origin from these camps this year, helping to ease the burden of providing humanitarian services and reducing the risk of ISIS exploitation of this vulnerable population,» the statement reads.
