Activist Adilet Baltabai detained in Sokuluk

Activist Adilet Baltabai was detained again. His wife Gulkaiyr Japarova told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, Baltabai went to the probation office in Sokuluk district for the next registration, from where he was taken away in an unknown direction.

Earlier, Adilet Baltabai reported on Facebook that law enforcement officers came to his home in his absence because he spoke out on the murder of a crime boss Kamchybek Kolbaev.

On November 11 last year, the Pervomaisky District Court found the activist guilty under the article «Calls for mass riots» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was sentenced to five years probation with probation supervision for three years.

On January 12, 2023, the Bishkek City Court overturned the decision of the district court and sentenced Adilet Baltabai to five years in prison. He was arrested in the courtroom. The activist opposed legalization of casinos and held rallies.

In April, the judicial panel of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic overturned the verdict of the Bishkek City Court and ruled to release the arrested activist from prison. The decision of the Pervomaisky District Court remained in force.
