72 members of organized crime group detained in Kazakhstan

At least 72 members of an organized crime group were detained during a special operation in Kazakhstan. They are suspected of illegal possession of weapons and drugs, extortion, organizing illegal migration and committing other serious crimes. The press service of the National Security Committee reports.

«On October 5, the National Security Committee, together with the police and with the coordination of the Prosecutor General’s Office, simultaneously carried out a special operation in Zhetysu, Zhambyl and Turkestan regions. As a result, 72 members of groups suspected of illegal possession of weapons and drugs, extortion, organizing illegal migration channels and committing other serious crimes were brought in for investigative actions,» the statement says.

According to the department, the groups carried out their activities in border areas with China (Khorgos International Center for Border Trade), Uzbekistan (Zhibek Zholy checkpoint) and Kyrgyzstan (Kordai Auto checkpoint).

«During the searches, firearms and ammunition, large sums of cash, drugs, and other material evidence were seized. Investigative measures are being carried out,» the press service reported.

Detentions in the neighboring republic began after the elimination of a crime boss Kamchi Kolbaev in Bishkek during a special operation by the State Committee for National Security.
