The UN is ready to help Kyrgyzstan in the implementation of projects to ensure seismic safety. The issue was discussed at the meeting of the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgzystan Akylbek Japarov and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan Antje Grawe.
The official stressed that the catastrophic consequences of earthquakes in a number of countries require a set of government measures to prevent and minimize man-made processes.
«The main thing for us is the safety of our citizens, so the state has tightened measures to check the earthquake resistance of buildings and structures, the state commission is working in this direction. But there is also a task to focus on specific tasks of systemic renewal of the construction sector, which will allow the introduction of advanced construction technologies,» Akylbek Japarov said.
He noted the need to carry out separate research work on the calculation of seismic loads and pre-design surveys, as well as on improving the current regulatory legal and technical framework.
Antje Grawe expressed readiness to jointly implement projects aimed at ensuring seismological safety of the country and noted that the UN structures in this area are focused on three main points — construction of sustainable housing, urban planning and planning of erected buildings, response in case of emergencies.
