Italian director shoots film about nomadic culture in Kyrgyzstan

Well-known Italian documentary filmmaker Mario Giani came to Kyrgyzstan to make a movie about nomadic culture. The Tourism Development Support Fund reported.

It is noted that the 80-year-old film director hosts several TV programs in Italy. His documentaries gain millions of views on YouTube. He tells about people, their mores, culture and traditions. Mario Giani is in Kyrgyzstan for the first time. He learned about the country by chance.

«It’s a funny story — I went to a car service to change a broken glass, and the manager of that workshop in Italy turned out to be a pretty girl from Kyrgyzstan. She told me about your country. I had never been here before, although I travel a lot. So when I returned home, I started looking for information about Kyrgyzstan and found a lot of interesting things for myself. I called the Kyrgyzstan’s Embassy in Italy, told them I wanted to make a movie, and here I am,» the documentary filmmaker said.

Mario Giani and his team traveled through villages on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, lived a few days on Son-Kul lake in Nomad’s Dream yurt camp.

«We traveled around Kyrgyzstan for 11 days, drove 1,500 kilometers and I think we filmed all the most interesting things. It was very entertaining to talk to ordinary people who live in the villages. It was interesting to film the life of nomads who live in yurts, and I liked this dwelling myself,» he said.

The director plans to complete the documentary about Kyrgyzstan in a few months. The Italian promised to show it to all Kyrgyzstanis.
