About 100,000 people have pensions below subsistence minimum in Kyrgyzstan

About 100,000 people receive pensions below the subsistence minimum to date in Kyrgyzstan. Chairman of the Social Fund, Baktiyar Aliyev, said this at a press conference.

According to him, it is necessary to separate Social Fund and social protection. The Social Fund grants pensions depending on the length of service of the pensioner and the amount of insurance premium payments.

«Mostly people with small work experience, 5-7 years, and small insurance premiums paid have small pensions. We are working in this direction. In October, we will submit a bill to the Parliament to set the minimum length of service of five years. Now, we proportionally set a pension of 3,170 soms when granting a pension irrespective of the length of service. When the requirement of minimum length of service is introduced, this will not be the case,» Baktiyar Aliyev said.

According to the results of the second quarter of 2023, the subsistence minimum for a pensioner in Kyrgyzstan is 6,816.71 soms.
