Akylbek Japarov meets with JICA President Akihiko Tanaka

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov held talks with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka. Press service of the Cabinet reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed Kyrgyz-Japanese cooperation in the fields of economy, education, culture, climate change, tourism and sports.

The head of the Cabinet noted that Kyrgyzstan appreciates the assistance of the Japanese government and JICA, which have been implementing projects in priority areas for many years. «We consider Japan as a long-term, reliable and friendly partner. Given that Japan is a leader in the automobile manufacturing, shipbuilding, construction and metallurgical industries, energy, robotics and food industries, I express interest in cooperation in the aforementioned areas,» he said.

Akylbek Japarov noted the success of cooperation in the field of human development within the framework of the grant program (JDS) of the Government of Japan for the training of state and municipal employees of the Kyrgyz Republic in Japanese higher educational institutions.

«The graduates of this program work in high positions in the state bodies of Kyrgyzstan. We are interested in continuing the program and are considering the possibility of increasing the annual quota of scholarship holders in the country for admission to your universities under the JDS program,» he said.

During the meeting, the parties focused on the success of One Village — One Product project. JICA President Akihiko Tanaka noted that he witnessed the work carried out in Issyk-Kul region on the project. The participation of women and the active implementation of the project testify to the economic development of Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of the meeting, it was noted that several bilateral official development institutions are working effectively in the Kyrgyz Republic, and it was proposed to consider the possibility of creating a Kyrgyz-Japanese Development Fund.
