Health Ministry improves system for monitoring medicines supply in hospitals

The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, together with Cure TB project, approved an order aimed at improving management of the supply chain of medicines in public hospitals. Press center of the ministry reported.

According to it, documents that play an important role in providing high-quality and effective medicines for patients have been approved:

  • Procedure for managing a pharmacy in public healthcare organizations — the document establishes the requirements, principles, strategies and procedures for managing a pharmacy in healthcare organizations. It regulates the proper storage of all medicines to ensure their quality and safety for use by all healthcare organizations.
  • Procedure for quality control of medicines in public health organizations — this document is aimed at ensuring quality control of medicines at all stages — from purchase to transportation and distribution among patients. It obliges health care organizations to ensure that medicines are stored in proper conditions in order to provide patients with quality and effective treatment.

The ministry added that improving supply chain management is an important step to improve the quality of medical services in the healthcare system.

«The introduction of these documents will improve pharmacy management processes in public healthcare organizations. Organizations will have appropriate standards and procedures for the proper storage of medicines, as well as their quality control. Quality control of medicines will also be carried out systematically. Public health organizations will monitor the compliance of drugs with quality standards and conduct regular monitoring of quality. This will make it possible to timely detect any problems with the quality of medicines and take appropriate measures in a timely manner to solve them,» the Ministry of Health noted.
