Market sellers hold protest against installation of cash registers in Bishkek

Market sellers hold another rally in Bishkek. About two hundred people gathered in Maxim Gorky park, and people continue to come.

The participants oppose the mandatory introduction of cash registers, use of electronic consignment notes, and a single tax on trading activities. Sellers demand to retain licensing system of taxation for retail trade.

«We are for the abolition of cash registers. This is unprofitable and inconvenient not only for us, but also for customers. We are just used to working on a license. Why do we need a fivefold taxation? First, the goods go through customs registration procedure, duties are paid, then the supplier company pays taxes, including VAT, then the intermediary companies involved in the delivery of goods to stores also pay taxes, and they are also paid in the markets and in stores. In the end, this all affects the cost of the goods. Consumers pay for everything,» said Mahmud Gubaidulin, chairman of the Public Association for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs.

According to him, this time not only representatives of the capital’s markets, but also traders and entrepreneurs from the regions take part in the protest.

This is not the first protest. More than 500 sellers from markets and shops held a rally in the Maxim Gorky park in Bishkek on March 2. In particular, entrepreneurs from Dordoi-Dyikan, Dordoi-Motors, Aziz Bazaar, Osh Bazaar, Orto-Sai and Alamedin markets participated in the protest.

Akylbek Japarov, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, said that smugglers were organizing rallies against the mandatory introduction of cash registers.
