Sadyr Japarov threatens to introduce external management in markets

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov commented to Kabar news agency on the rallies of vendors held throughout the republic due to tax reforms.

He noted that if people continue to be encouraged to hold rallies, then the authorities will decide the issue of the organizers in 5 seconds.

«We will introduce external management in the markets on behalf of the government, as it was introduced at Kumtor CJSC. We will quickly conduct an audit. If we start finding out, all the property will be revealed, large sums of money, and they will have to pay for everything. I am restraining the security forces now and not letting the situation get to this point, because they are all our citizens. I said to give them an opportunity. We even passed a law so that not only traders and businessmen, but also former and current officials could legalize their property. The same owners of containers, markets have five or six apartments and a Lexus LX570. But they are registered to other people. Previously, we registered all property to other people, this is no secret. Now they can register it for themselves,» the head of state said.

He stressed that he asks that no one hide their income, wealth and pay taxes. «But as of today, no one has disclosed their assets. I decided to start doing it myself. Soon you will find out how much property I have,» Sadyr Japarov added.

Rallies of market sellers have been held across the country since November 29. Protests took place at Osh market and in the park near the monument to Maxim Gorky on Tuesday. Sellers of markets and shops in Kara-Balta also held protest. Vendors from Dordoi, Orto-Sai market, Madina, Alamedin, Taatan, Aziz, and Chynar markets also held rally, as well as sellers at Kara-Suu market in Osh region. Rallies took place in Osh, Talas and Karakol. All entrepreneurs have the same requirements — to allow use of licenses for trade and to abolish mandatory use of cash registers.

The President gave them a six-month deferment — until July 2024.
