Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan tells about current Kyrgyz-Tajik relations

«If everything was decided through diplomacy, the world would live in bliss,» Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev said at a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Parliament.

MP Mirgul Temirbayeva asked about the work of the Kyrgyzstan’s Embassy in Dushanbe. «Is the Foreign Ministry to blame for the aggravation of the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border? Maybe your unprofessionalism influenced this?» she asked.

Jeenbek Kulubaev said that the Embassy was working as usual. «There was a moment when the connection was broken. Our diplomats were not allowed anywhere. But it has become easier now, work is underway,» he replied.

The official believes that his ministry is taking all measures to resolve the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. «You know, the head of Tajikistan visited Kyrgyzstan in July, negotiations were held at the highest level. We agreed to end the confrontation. The situation worsened in September. If all problems were solved after an agreement and a handshake, the world would live in bliss,» he said.

Jeenbek Kulubaev noted that the Foreign Ministry has every opportunity to protect the interests and sovereignty of the country. «We conduct a foreign policy, protecting the interests of the republic, on an equal footing with partners, not allowing outside interference in our internal affairs,» he stressed.

The issue of opening a Consulate in Khujand will be discussed with Tajikistan after the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is agreed upon, the minister said.
