Chairman of the State Committee for Land Management and Geodesy of Tajikistan Orif Khojazoda announced some progress in the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the state border with Kyrgyzstan, media reported.
According to him, in 2022, within the framework of the work of government commission on delimitation, demarcation, redemarcation and intergovernmental working groups, seven meetings were held with representatives of Kyrgyzstan.
Orif Khojazoda did not report the results, referring to a mutual agreement on non-disclosure of information until the completion of the process. He noted that the work would be continued this year as well.
Representatives of the commissions will meet both on the territory of Tajikistan and in Kyrgyzstan.
The length of the border between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan is 972 kilometers, 682 of which have been clarified, and 290 remain disputed. In December 2022, it was reported that the topographic working groups of the government delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan completed the design description of 17.66 kilometers of the state border line.
At the end of December last year, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, during a working visit to Batken region, announced his intention to complete work on clarifying the Kyrgyz-Tajik border issue by the summer 2023.
