Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev held a meeting to consider a roadmap to address the smog problem in Bishkek. Press service of the Cabinet reported.
Bakyt Torobaev noted that for the successful passage of the heating season, the issue of providing the sectors of the economy and the population with coal is considered annually.
«At the same time, the problem of smog, which adversely affects the health of citizens, remains in the background. It is necessary to step up prevention of the problem at the local level. Instead of waiting for a problem to appear, the heads of the relevant departments should take steps as part of the roadmap developed to eliminate the causes of smog, providing monthly real information about the situation,» the Deputy Prime Minister said.
According to experts, one of the reasons for the smog in the capital is the use of coal, burning of automobile tires and sewing waste in newly built quarters and private bath houses. To solve the problem, the issue of transferring residential buildings and small businesses to natural gas is being considered. At the same time, sewing waste should be recycled and not burnt.
Smog is also caused by the use of coal at the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant and boiler houses in significant volumes, a large number of old cars, burning garbage in landfills, random appearance of various construction sites, cutting down trees.
As part of the project to improve air quality in the capital, it is planned to attract financial resources from various sources. To solve the problem, a working group is created from among representatives of state bodies, working meetings will be held on a regular basis by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev.
