A moratorium on new construction will be imposed in Tashkent until the adoption of a General Plan. Gazeta.uz reports.
According to the media outlet, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said this at a meeting. He criticized the fact that when issuing planning permits, an accurate calculation of the load on the existing infrastructure is not made, and the landscaping of the territories was not carried out in parallel with the construction.
The head of the republic stressed that in 2023 the green area of the capital should reach 28 percent. For this, it is planned to create a new park with an area of 100 hectares, and Tashkent will be surrounded by a «green belt»: it is planned to plant 525,000 trees and shrubs, 20 million flowers in the spring.
The media outlet recalled that in September 2021, Shavkat Mirziyoyev already announced plans to reduce construction in Tashkent. «It is enough! If we continue, then the sewerage system will fail, and there will be no green territory — everything will turn into concrete,» he said then.
