Four measles cases registered in Kyrgyzstan in January 2023

Four cases of measles were registered in January 2023 in Kyrgyzstan. The Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center informed 24.kg news agency.

The press center of the Ministry of Health stressed that it was not an outbreak, but just individual cases.

«As part of the epidemiological surveillance of measles and rubella, 10 blood tests with suspected measles and rubella were laboratory examined during January. Four of them were positive for measles (one of the cases was imported from Turkey) and two were positive for rubella. The condition of the patients is satisfactory, medical supervision is underway,» the ministry said.

«The situation with measles in the republic is stable, individual cases are registered. According to the Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center, only one case was registered in 2022, and three — in 2021. The Ministry of Health set up operational headquarters, protocol instructions have been adopted to strengthen routine immunization against measles and rubella, as well as to improve communication on the importance of vaccination and measles prevention,» the Ministry of Health added.

Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by a virus. This infection is characterized by high susceptibility. If a person, who has not previously had measles and has not been vaccinated, comes into contact with a sick person, then the likelihood of getting sick is extremely high. The virus is transmitted by airborne droplets.
