Former executive director of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC Kanat Kurmanov was placed in the pre-trial detention center 1 in Bishkek. The Prosecutor General’s Office informed 24.kg news agency.
By a court decision, the former top manager of the company will be kept under arrest until March.
Earlier it was reported that Kanat Kurmanov, who was put on the wanted list, was brought to Kyrgyzstan from Turkey. The Prosecutor General’s Office clarified that the former executive director was detained on January 14 while crossing the state border at Manas International Airport.
Kanat Kurmanov was put on the wanted list on September 15, 2022, charged with violation of restrictions established by the legislation on joint-stock companies. The court chose in absentia a measure of restraint for him in the form of detention.
Earlier it was reported about financial violations revealed at Kumtor, in particular, fuels and lubricants, food, spare parts were purchased at prices above market ones. The Prosecutor General’s Office initiated three criminal cases. Former external manager of Kumtor Tengiz Bolturuk, procurement specialist Aisha-Gul Frontbek kyzy Dzhanalieva and the financial director Ryspek Toktogulov were detained. The latter was taken into custody for one month. Tengiz Bolturuk was placed in the remand center of the State Committee for National Security until March.
