The first case of a new Omicron strain — Kraken — was registered in Russia. Rospotrebnadzor reported.
According to it, the virus was detected in Penza Oblast.
«A wide range of varieties of the Omicron strain has been detected in the Russian Federation, but the BA.5 Omicron variant remains dominant. So the Delta variant dominated in the second half of 2021 and was detected in isolated cases in the fall of 2022. Other strains have not been registered in recent months,» the statement says.
Laboratories of Rospotrebnadzor and other departments continue to constantly monitor the circulation of coronavirus variants in the Russian Federation and a number of neighboring states.
